my first giveaway

One of the perks of being a HandmadeMN Etsy team member is being able to showcase your product in team giveaways. This little beauty's been waiting for a giveaway since the day I created her, and finally the time has come! Head on over to the HandmadeMN blog to enter for your chance to try a travel earring organizer for free.

While I might be biased, having one of these holders among my travel accessories has been really nice. My earrings look so much better when they're nicely stored on the folding panel versus a jumbled mess in my eyeglass' case. The organizer also saves me the panicked "don't tell me I lost one!" moment before finding it tangled in my hairbrush.

So what are you waiting for? Enter now.

[contest ends March 12 at noon CST]

a day in the life

I have been waiting and waiting to be able to tell you about this project! Awhile back a man contacted me asking if I would be willing to make a Beatles-themed earring holder for a time capsule for his wife's 60th birthday. His wife's birthday that is happening next year. Next year, people!

Before contacting me, he had already been busy shopping and collecting retro Beatles earrings, rings, and pendants. He even found the Beatles fabric (now a repurposed tea towel) and button (after noticing I had "a neat button" on all my holders).

Since he needed it to also store pendants and rings, I added 4 pockets to the upper and lower panels for safe storage. Then, since I'm a sucker for a sweet story and had extra fabric, I threw in a drawstring pouch to store the earring holder along with a larger necklace and bracelet he had purchased.

Among my favorite features is the way the words lined up on the front and when it's opened. I hope she loves it and gets the "youthful kick" her husband is trying to achieve!

a day maker

Peach Umbrella by rosiemusic

This email regarding my earring holders arrived a couple months ago, but I can still remember how elated I was to receive it. Here was a person from Greece, who while far geographically, had a need near to my heart: organizing earrings during travel. She found my shop, purchased an earring holder, and then took the time to give me her reaction:

"And I love it! It's such a smart design - it seems to fit many pairs of earrings, even big dangly ones, but it still packs super small and light. In fact, it's so small that I can fit it in a larger case that holds bracelets and other bulky items. The two kinds of jewelry I wear most are earrings and bracelets - I wear a necklace every day, but it's always the same so I don't need to pack it, as such, and I hardly ever wear rings. But even the biggest earrings are too delicate to be thrown together with bracelets, especially the big cuffs I like! So this is perfect."

Words are powerful. These words made me happy for at least a 24-hour period, and they still make me smile when I remember that moment. What kind words do you have to share with others? Imagine all the smiles we can generate!

the shop's on sale

The joviality of the holidays has come upon me. Tomorrow I will share a meal with family and later this weekend will begin decorating my home with Christmas trees and lights. Already I've been thinking of gifts to give loved ones, and well, I can't leave my beloved blog readers out!

As my gift to you, I'd like to pass on these good vibes - and what better way than to have a sale? And not a run-of-the-mill sale ... a big one. And rewarding to those who shop early.

So here's the deal: all weekend (11/26 - 11/29) use coupon code WeekendSale25 to get 25% off your purchase, and if you'd like it gift wrapped, convo me and it's on the house! Shop early on Black Friday (from 3am - 9am CST) and use coupon code BlackFriday50 for 50% off. Or if you're more the Cyber Monday type, place your order between 6am - 10am and use coupon code CyberMonday50 to save 50% that day.

There you have it! Hope your Thanksgiving is filled with gratitude and your following days filled with joy. I know I'm thankful for each of you!

and we're off!

The blog will be taking a short break since I'll be in *Boston*! Love that city.

My earrings are all packed [in my very own all things * jane travel earring holder, of course] which means it's time to hit the road! Click the Etsy store links to the right and find one for yourself - orders will ship on October 8th.

sunshine on my shoulder makes me happy

Things are getting a little silly around here.

While taking photos of the new earring holders, my husband got remote-trigger happy and snapped one while I was prepping. Then I read him the earring organizer's description in my best "Made for TV" voice. And the title of this post is the song I can't help but sing (sometimes out loud) every time I see the holder with the big yellow button.

I think it's time to be done for the day.

online - at long last!

They're up!

I can hardly believe it. Back in May, the first materials arrived. A couple weeks later, I acquired the finishing touches. Then June happened. Totally flew by. My apologies ... I really did want to share my creation with you!

What is this creation, you ask? It's a travel earring holder, invented out of necessity. [decided storing my earrings in my glasses case (with my glasses, mind you) was probably a bad idea.] I needed something small, easy to use, and, possibly most important, cute.

If you want more pictures, check out my store on Etsy. Feel free to leave a comment telling me what you think of them.

Out of curiosity, how do you normally store your earrings when you go out of town?
